I agree with whoever said try McAfee...I like it much better.
Sure you could download it for free but without a paid subscription it would be soon useless without the daily virus defination updates.

They BOTH SUCK. Norton especially can be worse than some viruses. It's like a HYDRA - it sends its crap ALL THROUGH OUT your system! CCAPP is an ESPECILLY BUGGY AND TROUBLESOME part of Norton.

I dumped McAffee because it wanted to SPEND MORE TIME ON THE NET THAN I DID - and I spend a LOT!

Wouldn't advise Norton. It can crash and freeze up your system. Try looking into McAfee. If you want a free anti-virus look for Grisoft AVG. You can download the free version at: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

Try that. You can program it to run the updates and wirus scan at night while you're sleeping. If you run the virus while you are trying to use applications it tends to run slower.
I would suggest Antivir XP. It is really superb and my system is really stable. search for it in www.download.com
Don't use McAfee. They just got into a lot of trouble for a bad update that targeted valid files as viruses. Go to www.norton.com. You can download it there for free, but after the trial period (I think it's 30 days), you have to pay for it. There is no other legal way to get it for free.
I'll not suggest u others AV.The most important thing, u have to update it regularly. If u want to get Norton on free, try torrent, ex:torrentreactor.com (Att:This Is Illegal).

Otherwise, u can use free AV.But like the 1rst i say, updated it regularly.
