Well it probably will always be there because if you ever did a system restore, it would be back. But all you have to do is make sure that the firewall, antivirus, internet, and updates programs are all UNINSTALLED from the remove programs list. Thats all i can tell ya :)
Follow the prompts after you install the disc. Your best bet is to get rid of it even if it was for free. There are a lot of better programs than Norton but I won't suggest any because I don't want to be married to any problems that others might have...........

I use McAfee but I don't tell anyone to use this head ache free program.
You need the automatic removal tool from Norton.
Download and run CCleaner it's free.

Have a look at the tour before you install it and you will know what it's capable of doing it will not harm your system. It can get rid of Norton for sure and a lot of other junk files. As I said take the tour.

Cheers.

Actually just run CCleaner and that will get rid of Norton for you
The best method is to use the Norton Removal Tool as indicated by Who Dares Wins.

One footnote is that the above tool will remove all Norton or Symantec products which you have installed, therefore be careful to ensure that you backup any data you might have in a Norton or Symantec product that you want to keep.
have you removed all files relating to norton antivirus in the add/remove section? its not just the one file you have to remove
