But some company like Microsoft are doing their best to monitor and prevent like this one like their new publish software Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage which if you have this in your system actually checks your system and if they found that your Windows is genuine, you can download updates from them. May be you've installed more program. I suggest you to get Kaspersky Anti virus or Internet Security. It's faster scaning than Norton. It also won't slow down your PC. Kaspersky's software just takes 128MB.

maybe your internet security level is at high level that prompts your norton to give you a warning pop-up. i had it before when i set to a high level. try to choose the middle/medium level and maybe it wont notify you always and would just ignore low security risks. open your internet explorer, go to tools, internet option, then security and privacy option (make it medium level) then click ok. not so sure if this a good help, but i had tried it and got no problem at all.

yeah why not just get rid of all your protection software and that way you won't get "annoyed" by those stupid programs telling you your computer is at risk and could potentially become unstable or unuseable. More than likely you have a spam blocker on your Nortons and it is doing its job, you want to check your info with Nortons and it will probaly be solved.
I haven't run Norton for a while now but I think you have to change your settings in outlook and set it up to go threw Norton you will have to search your Norton help files

i keep telling everyone that norton is no good. but that's because most people are in too big of a hurry to set it up right. if you take your time and only enable the correct functions in it there isn't a virus scanner that can come close to it. but there are are some functions in it that will cause you problems. read their help pages before you get rid of norton. it is more complicated to setup but worth the time it takes.

You can have your antivirus software update itself as often as you like. Check your drag-down menus when you have the program up. Look for either an "options" tab or a "preferences" tab. I will give them credit for being able to sucker people into purchasing Nortons with their slick marketing skills. To bad they are unable to take these skills and put them into turning around a pure junk product into a quality product.

One would think they would learn from years of making horrible mistakes with their software. Each and every year Nortons continues to get worse. They learn nothing from past experiences.

My guess is as long as they are pulling the the "born yesterday people", they will continue to get richer and richer with no need to make any effort to imporve their software so that is not a hugh resource hog, finds viruses and you are not left with 375 fragments of Nortons when you decide you want to remove the software.

They are in many ways like Microsoft Windows Platforms. You pay alot of money for Windows XP and you expect to get a product that you do not have to download 75 or more critical updates. Kind of like selling you a platform full of security holes.

Microsoft has full knowledge that when you purchase a plaform youv are purchasing a platform full of security holes. And then they turn around with the WGA, and validate that your key is genuine for a platform full of flaws.

You must go to your firewall and go into your firewall properties. There should be spot to enter "safe" programs. Enter your program and you should be able to use your MSN Explorer. (The program should end in .EXE) Good luck!!

If norton is running. Try right clicking on the norton symbol on in the notification area of your desktop (where the clock is) and there should be an option to enable auto protect. Click on it and you're all set.
I would tell you to contact Norton and ask them what can be done to fix it. There might be a problem at their end.

How old is your PC?

You should have received a refresh disk with your PC. This will have the Norton's Security program as part of the rebuild/refresh disk.

Norton used to be best. Unfortunately they took something that was working great and tried to fix it. As they fixed it and added more and more to the base program it got worse and worse. Back 4 years ago it was always my choise and used it since win 3.1. It used to be very configurable.

The problem with Norton is that it's bloatware junk that slows down even high end PC's. Because Norton is so popular virus writers create viruses that can get around Norton. AVG on the other hand is a lot lighter on system resources and I've never gotten a virus using it.
I use Panda Antivirus. It costs about $50 a year, but does a great job. I have never had problems. They get great reviews in PC magazines. You need at least 256MB. You can get a free scan and disinfect at their website. I'm sure it will find a virus or two plus tons of spyware:

In theory, you can install on more, but it will not allow you to update the virus definitions on any more which is essential these days. The other thing to note is that when your 1 year's subscription runs out, you will need to pay for another years subscription for EACH computer.

This is a registry problem, related with Norton Antivirus, the remedy is uninstall and reinstall Norton, this is the solution of 95% of all problems related to software, so I suggest you try it before worrying or taking big decisions like switching Retail paid money protection to free software which is usually bubdled with adware (Adware came with AVG and Avast when I downloaded it).

I use Norton and have never had a problem. I also have heard a lot of bad things about Norton. I have shut down my virus protection and scanned with other anti virus programs several times to see if they found anything and they did not so my Norton must be working. My confidence has really grown.

You can install Norton, its a pretty good anti-virus, provided you go on having the automatic updates so that the software is always updated with the master server. If you have an active subscription to an antivirus program, make sure that it is up to date. If your subscription is over either renew it or use RevoUninstaller to uninstall it. Then install AVG in its place. Regardless of which of these you do, then install ThreatFire.

You should also visit the Google Pack website in order to download Spyware Doctor for free.

I would also recommend that you use Mozilla's Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Once it's installed, you should also install the Adblock Plus add-on. After it's been installed, it will ask you if you want to add certain premade lists. I find that instead of adding one, it's best to visit the homepage of EasyList, and add all three lists from there, instead of just one from the original menu.

You can, but it's a total system hog, and on a computer that's old enough to be running windows 2000, the fewer stuff you have running the better off you will be. You could go with AVG, which is free, but it's not as much protection as a commercial product, and it gives you NO protection at all from spyware like a commercial product will. When your antivirus performs a scan. It produces a log. This log can be up to 100 megabytes of information each. The registry holds all this info. The addition of the info is not the major problem. Its that the information is placed in many places in your registry. This causes fragmentation of files. If the registry is error-filled, fragmented, or bloated with unnecessary and duplicate files, you will have major slowdown. Organize and keep it maintained, the problem will most likely be solved. You can scan to see the condition of your registry and see what resources you can unlock resources.

Don't let some of the other comments get to you, Norton is one of the best anti viruses, although it is a resource hog and slows down your computer, it does the job. I know of one that is better than Norton and it is not a resource hog and will not slow down your computer. It is NOD32 Anti Virus, and in my opinion the best anti virus made, and I suggest you switch to it when it comes time to renew Norton. In the meantime trust Norton. I stopped using Norton anti-virus because it can develop it's own problems and binds itself so much into the Windows registry.
