Continuing on the Norton Antivirus 2007 and Trojan. My Norton is on autoprotect so it should be on 2

After it detected the Trojan and placed it in the quarantien section, I deleted the trojan from my quarantine section. Since that time I have run a full scan several times even in "safemode" and nothintg is detected. Sound like this is completed and safe? (within the bounds of what we can consider safe)

First, Your Over reacting, Once you Quarintine it its gone and the quarantine section means that this is what you've currently deleted. And yes it should be on 24/7 so no one can get in. and you should run a scan once a week to make sure your computer is completely clean because some viruses can still get passed your system if its not updated and make sure you check the updates often. try using avg free on line scanner, it seems to pick up alot of what Norton misses. most scanners will give you option to either remove the virus, or quarantine it. depending on whether the file is a vital file, i would choose to delete it. If your just not sure, then quarantine it.

What you can do, is disable Norton and download AVG or Avast for free and run their virus scan. When you download, make sure to save it to a file that you can access easily,or remember where it is at. You don't want to run two AV programs at the same time,but, if you make sure to disable one before running the other, then you are good to go.

As far as saving to a file, that way you know where it is,so that you can remove it later.

Norton should be avoided from all computers.
Check firewalls in Norton.

If that does not work you should uninstall everything Yahoo and then reinstall.
Yahoo has some kind of antivirus protection in it and is having conflicts with your Norton. Start your computer and disable the Norton to test this theory, if it works then that was it!
Get rid of Norton P.O.S. and install the FREE a very capable anti-virus, AVG Free. Then install the FREE version of ZoneAlarm Firewall. Hi, myself and many other people have the same problem, Mcaffee is also just as bad, I use F-Secure, it is pretty good and doesn't use up system resources like Norton and McAffee do.

I'm not sure, but my computer's doing the same. Norton Antivirus was interfering with the Windows security software so I had to make a few adjustments. It's a real pain and I think it's a general problem with a lot of security software not working correctly with Windows.

I think the best thing is to contact Symantec directly as I have done before, only be warned they may charge you!

Norton is great andhas been around for years. Keep using it and updating it. Sometimes a virus is so imbedded that it needs removed manually. Norton has an extinsive webpage for those. I also run spybpt with norton. I am virus free and have been for a long time. Spybot is free. Try it out

I agree. I get McAfee free with my cable modem so I use it on my main desktop. AVG is highly recommended, but I am not familiar with it. On an older computer w/ limited memory (128k) and a Pentium II processor, I use Avast free home edition. It works well and is also free and constantly updated.

You might have to go to the norton web site and run the support tool, something may have screwed up norton. I had a problem with it with our family desktop. I finally uninstalled norton and switched to AVG, it's free and works a whole lot better.

I've also had this happen to me.

I "took a chance" and un-installed Norton and then re-installed it (provided that you have the installation disk available). After I was done the system was okay again. Every now and then Norton will "corrupt" itself.

When you do this (un-install) and (re-install), Norton will be completely in RED and alert you that EVERYTHING is not up to date. You will have to run a full scan as well as a live-update again.

I would hit fix. This should remove those tracking cookies. HOWEVER, I would recommend utilizing free adware solutions like Lavasoft Ad-Aware which you can download for free. Also try Spybot as well. You don't really need to pay for Norton Antivirus. If you got it pre-installed with your computer, it will keep bugging you to buy it once the free sample runs out. Lavasoft Ad-Aware provides free updates to its core software. Norton actually bloats your computer anyways...

There are also good alternative anti-virus solutions out there when your Norton subscription runs out.

Yes get rid of them, you don't need tracking cookies at all. Besides they will come back again when you to the sites they come from, so just keep ahead of it

Hit 'Fix'. As tracking cookies cannot be 'fixed', they will be most probably removed if you do so.
You can click FIX, but Norton Antivirus will probably Quarantine them. You can then go to your Quarantined Items and delete them.

In this case, I would recommend something like CCleaner. This little freeware application started out as Crap-Cleaner and was a project started by a couple of college kids. It has since evolved into a very useful application. It not only deletes cookies, but cleans out logs and temporary files and keeps your computer running smoothly.

Norton is most likely the major factor in slowing down your computer. It has a LOT of processes that run in the background. These processes are constantly scanning everything and keeping a watch on everything that goes on with your computer. Using a Pentium III processor isn't very helpful for this situation, either.

What I suggest is that you look into increasing the amount of RAM your computer has. If you don't know what RAM is, or how to replace it, contact a friend or somebody who does. Don't call a "professional", as they'll charge you up the wazoo for a VERY simple task.

This MAY solve some of your speed issues. But, unfortunately, the most effective method of speeding up your computer would be to upgrade the entire motherboard completely. And, if you don't know a lot about replacing internal computer components, it may actually be easier to purchase a new computer. But, this is the reason I'm suggesting upgrading your RAM, as it's much cheaper and easier to do.

A lot of people consider Norton to do more harm than good, and I'm inclined to agree. The problem with a single extremely popular program is that people look for ways to exploit the flaws in that program and take advantage of you, which is what happens with Norton. I remember that there was recently an issue with Norton automatically disconnecting the user from the internet if the computer was sent a certain string of text, so people started going into chat rooms and pasting that string of text just to see how many people would be forced offline. Naturally, this is extremely in conducive to getting any work done, so in that case having Norton was the sure fire way to get annoyed.

My advice is to find another antivirus/firewall program that doesn't impose on your computer's resources, but if you feel uncomfortable doing that, then Norton( as bad as it may be) is better than nothing at all.

In Windows XP and prior you have an Add/Remove programs under control panel(start-%26gt;settings-%26gt;control panel). Look for Norton or Symantec products and remove there. That should uninstall.

Call the norton anti-virus and follow the directions. There are tools which remove but its best to call them.
Go to My Computer%26gt;Add or Remove Programs and remove everything with Norton or Symantic in the name.

I would suggest you to install a firewall and an Antispyware as well. Since firewall can protect you from viruses as well and Antispyware protects you from adware, spyware... etc.

If Norton will not remove your prob you can download TROJAN REMOVER from www.simplysup.com and do a scan. The program is free for 30 days. Well worth a try and it will fix everything it finds.
Update the anti-virus, then run a scan in safe mode. (Tap F8 at start up) Then run a scan and remove the spyware with Norton. To get outta safe mode, Start%26gt;Run%26gt;msconfig%26gt;Boot tab%26gt;Uncheck safe mode
When you do a scan go to "fix the problem" and it will do it automatically.
There should be a function within Norton to fix this for you.
I have had this problem norton never got rid of it so I had to do it manualy by going into it they are normaly in documents and settings or program files look to see what the report tells you then you can delete it hope this helps sos don't rate norton at all

There will be no problem if you have two registration keys. I don't use Nortons, but I am sure they will only allow you to install in one PC. As if they don't earn enough money, they will charge you for each PC.

If you bought the norton antivirus cd you should be able to install it on as many computers as you want. If the Norton Antivirus came preinstalled on your computer than you have to find the setup program for it and then burn it onto a disc.

Your best bet is to go to http://www.spybot.com and download spybot search and destroy. It's a very good free program

i almost never recommend that people use norton. that's because to get it to work properly you have to read what it says on their support site. most people are too lazy or busy to do that.

DONT SHARE YOUR PRODUCT KEY WITH ANYONE
Just try and ring them and they will probably tell you, the key has been used five times already and then you tell them to reactivate your key again because you are the legal owner of the software (provided you are the legal owner).
Contact Symantec, They will provide you a lisence file over e-mail. Only product key is not enough.

Ditto to jd. Running more than one Anti Virus on your computer sends conflicting and duplicate messages and actions. It can cause all kinds of havoc and even make your entire PC crash. You only need one and make sure to update it's definitions regularly. But run as many anti spyware/adware programs as you like.

apparently not. some softwares may act in an unusual manner, because they are not compatible with Windows vista, but soon enough an update will be available that can fix those problems. once the update is installed it should act normally. What you would find helpful, is to visit the websites of the softwares you have installed and find out whether there are any fixes for the vista incompatibility. But norton 2007 should work with vista, i have it installed on my vista home premium and it works just fine. just be careful how you install it, because the first time i installed it, i must have done something wrong, because windows did not recognize it. but i reinstalled it when everything was idle and it recognized it, with no instability.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. In order to be able to prosecute there must be a verified intrusion. You first need to disable Norton. This makes the intruder "think" it is down. But in reality you can't just turn it off. Once the "intrusion" occurs Norton will reactivate and give you a report with instructions.

For Popup protection use Yahoo toolbar and Google toolbar WITH the popup blocker on yous SP2 system firewall.

I've used this combo of programs for YEARS with extremely good results.

Just make double sure you get all of Symantec's files OUT of your computer. Before you install the AVAST or whatever other prog you decide on Uninstall Norton. It's a messy prog and leaves garbage files all over your puter. After you unistall Norton using the Add/Remove programs in your Control panel you'll need to clean up those left over files.

To do this click on Start%26gt;Run, then type regedit in the dialog box that comes up. Highlight "My Computer"%26gt;Click Edit at top left and the Find, check ALL boxes and then type in Symantec, click Find next...if/when your computer finds a file delete it and then hit F3 on the top row of keys on your KB. This will continue the search. Delete each and every Symantec file you find. Then do the same procedure with the word Norton.

You can't just disable it and expect it to go away. If you don't want Norton, uninstall it by clicking on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and the Show updates box at the top. When the list loads, find Norton, and everything that has Norton in the name. click to uninstall each one of them. When you are sure you have all the norton products uninstalled, close control panel and restart your computer. If this doesn't work, there is an uninstall with Norton that should remove it.

But, then get a ond of the good free antivirus programs and install it on your computer. In this day and age, you can't afford to not have antivirus on your computer. Avast free and AVG are probably the best two free programs today.

But some company like Microsoft are doing their best to monitor and prevent like this one like their new publish software Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage which if you have this in your system actually checks your system and if they found that your Windows is genuine, you can download updates from them. May be you've installed more program. I suggest you to get Kaspersky Anti virus or Internet Security. It's faster scaning than Norton. It also won't slow down your PC. Kaspersky's software just takes 128MB.

Nice choice of product . The older versions are completely removed/erased/uninstalled . This uninstall will be performed when installing the new versions . A pop up may appear and alert the user of this uninstall . Always accept the uninstall . Be sure to run a "Full System Scan" after the install is complete .

You really need to check with AT%26T, to see what their EULA reads. Usually you are only allowed to put a software program on one PC, unless states otherwise.

Because you have the same IP address for both computers, the IP provider and many of the software companies still know your system hardware and have the technology to know if you are trying to install on a second PC.

maybe your internet security level is at high level that prompts your norton to give you a warning pop-up. i had it before when i set to a high level. try to choose the middle/medium level and maybe it wont notify you always and would just ignore low security risks. open your internet explorer, go to tools, internet option, then security and privacy option (make it medium level) then click ok. not so sure if this a good help, but i had tried it and got no problem at all.

yeah why not just get rid of all your protection software and that way you won't get "annoyed" by those stupid programs telling you your computer is at risk and could potentially become unstable or unuseable. I haven't run Norton for a while now but I think you have to change your settings in outlook and set it up to go threw Norton you will have to search your Norton help files

i keep telling everyone that norton is no good. but that's because most people are in too big of a hurry to set it up right. if you take your time and only enable the correct functions in it there isn't a virus scanner that can come close to it. but there are are some functions in it that will cause you problems. read their help pages before you get rid of norton. it is more complicated to setup but worth the time it takes.

You can have your antivirus software update itself as often as you like. Check your drag-down menus when you have the program up. Look for either an "options" tab or a "preferences" tab. I will give them credit for being able to sucker people into purchasing Nortons with their slick marketing skills. To bad they are unable to take these skills and put them into turning around a pure junk product into a quality product.

My guess is as long as they are pulling the the "born yesterday people", they will continue to get richer and richer with no need to make any effort to imporve their software so that is not a hugh resource hog, finds viruses and you are not left with 375 fragments of Nortons when you decide you want to remove the software.

They are in many ways like Microsoft Windows Platforms. You pay alot of money for Windows XP and you expect to get a product that you do not have to download 75 or more critical updates. Kind of like selling you a platform full of security holes.

Microsoft has full knowledge that when you purchase a plaform youv are purchasing a platform full of security holes. And then they turn around with the WGA, and validate that your key is genuine for a platform full of flaws.

You must go to your firewall and go into your firewall properties. There should be spot to enter "safe" programs. Enter your program and you should be able to use your MSN Explorer. (The program should end in .EXE) Good luck!!

My Norton was doing exactly the same...so I got rid of it, installed AVG (it's free) which promptly found 16 viruses and trojans.

when the live update box disapears it dosnt mean that the updateing process has finnished.

sometimes it dosnt come up because norton is doing a automatic live update, and the updater is running in the background without you knowing.

If norton is running. Try right clicking on the norton symbol on in the notification area of your desktop (where the clock is) and there should be an option to enable auto protect. Click on it and you're all set.

How old is your PC?

You should have received a refresh disk with your PC. This will have the Norton's Security program as part of the rebuild/refresh disk.

If the computer is a couple of years old, then you do need to remove the old files to install the new. Norton's and all the virus companies update the virus engines when they add new features to combat the newer types of malware on the Internet. Especially since both McAfee and Norton's has been compromised a couple of times in the last few years.

Also, you should update your DAT's daily. DAT's are files that update the virus protection to combat new viruses that have been released in the wild (Internet).
